Most of our books and antiques are curated with a special interest in the long and storied history of the Southwest. Our large wooden display case, complete with a bullet hole in the front glass panel, hails from the infamous St James Hotel in Cimarron, New Mexico. This early local inn was known for providing room and board to several great legends of the west such as Billy The Kid, Annie Oakley, Jesse James, Buffalo Bill, Wyatt Earp, and Clay Allison. This display was the original poker chip case that was brought piece by piece to Cimarron by rail and by stage from St. Louis, MO in the mid to late 19th century.
The store has become a representation of passion and dedication to unearthing these rich and wonderous tales of the area’s past. We also have a strong interest in bringing products to the community of Taos that are from small business owners. Many of these business owners work closely with local and regional farmers, Navajo elders, Peruvian farmers and other indigenous elders to make hand crafted items that hold true to the original stories where they were created.
Aurora Folk Arts is a space you won’t want to leave once you arrive.
